The Cataclysm Legendary MMO Mouse
Before we begin with the mouse review, we would like to show you the
mouse mat used for the review. We used the Steelseries Cataclysm
Deathwing Edition mouse mat. Which kept a nice grip to the desk and had
no friction when mouse setting were set to low DPI and thrusting the
mouse across the mat, this pad is recommended for user as its very cheap
and would be a nice addition to your WOW collection. The mat is very
large, so make sure you have a big desk. It’s dimensions are 12.6-inch x
10.6-inch.
The mouse has a lightning design spreading over the mouse,
originating for the circle in the middle which features the WOW logo.
While in operation the WOW logo glows on and off with a breathing
effect, inside the circle it has symbols around it from the game.
As you can see from the product images, the shortcut of hotkeys are
located around the scroll and on both left and right sides of the mouse.
The hotkeys can be assigned by the software built for the specific
mouse. You can assign one specific button to do the job of two, or even
three buttons that you would normal use on the keyboard that you would
activate together by holding down. So with this mouse you can easily
activate around 11 programmable buttons with more than 130 preset game
commands.
The Steelseries WOW legendary mouse is a great looking mouse, you can
instantly see it is fit for full comfort, with its low profile
thumb/palm rest, and on the right hand side its high profile lift for
your little finger. Both of these sections are layered in a smooth black
rubber, which is allows you a cool hand and make sure there’s no slip
and slid while in the heat of battle. The mouse is designed to stay
strong and tight on your hand while playing, but yet at the same time
due to the unique hotkey buttons all over the mouse, it also allows you
do access commands that otherwise you would have to lift off and press
or hold a couple of keyboard keys at the same time. This makes gameplay
much quicker and easier, and for a WOW user who already spends around
£8.99 a month just to be online, it would not be a - “must have” – but a
need to get.
Software
Once you have plugged in the mouse, you have to go to the Steelseries
website and download this software for it, it should take long as the
size of the file is only 27.7MB. This is the software used to apply
which keys you want apply to all the mouse’s buttons. This is the main
interface below, which allows you to have ten individual profiles for
the mouse setup.
Each profile is customary to macro changed and CPI change that can be
assigned to individual buttons on the mouse. Meaning you can change
your while profile instantly while actually in game; you can go from low
CPI with a complete different button configuration and even colour
change, to a completely new setup with just one button press. Yet again
making this mouse, once setup to your preference, and extremely quick
and easy tool, that depending on how you play your WOW, will be crucial
once you have begun using it. You won’t contemplate going back to a
simple normal mouse ever again after using this mouse.
As you see on the left pullout, just like the other Steelseries high
end gaming mice, you can adjust the DPI sensitivity, and even adjust the
X & Y axis to make the mouse extremely personal to your own
preference. Nothing has been held back with the Legendary. It has been
made to be seriously personal, which automatically makes it a high-end
piece of kit.
From the lamination pullout at the bottom of the software’s interface
you are able to change the colour scheme of the pulsation light on the
mouse. You are also able to change the pulsating frequency from
high/medium/low and the intensity to high/medium/low.
Conclusion
The mouse is the perfect, or average size if you like, comfortable
with it featuring the right materials. All the shortcuts buttons on the
mouse are not out of your way like some others, meaning you really don’t
have to move at all to press every single button, as you fingers or
thumb is already on them.
There’s always that question with all that in
mind. Is it easier or just lazy? I think it’s fair to say it’s both, but
for WOW gamers who have so many different options on screen, I’m sure
that WOW gamers will be overjoyed with the quicker options offered on
the mouse by Steelseries, along with the very high DPI settings, with
abilities to instantly change setting with a button in-game. With a
large ten different profile settings, every gamer is going to be happy
with the buy. I would have to say for the amount that this Cataclysm
mouse offers, I would say it is at a very reasonable price.
The mouse is quite a large £65, but World of Warcraft fans are always willing to splash out on some more WOW merchandise.
